Gen Z, The Corona Diaries: Appreciating the Little Pleasures

By Asha, 20, Chicago, Illinois

During this time, it’s hard to stay motivated and on top of work or schoolwork.

However, I have started to get into a routine so I am spending my time efficiently. I wake up and complete some sort of workout because it always makes me feel refreshed and ready to start the day. Then I allot a few hours to complete my schoolwork and my internship work. By this time, I am usually in need of a brain break, so I go on a walk with friends or family and then come home and relax and eat dinner with my family. It is a very relaxed way to spend my time and it’s nice to be able to focus on myself without distractions.

Being a college student, I feel as if a chunk of my life has been taken away from me. Everyone says that college is the best four years of your life, but I am not going to be able to say that. I could say college was the best 2 years of my life, and I feel as if I am stripped of all of the possibilities that being on campus provides.

I think everyone is going to be a lot more cautious when it comes to going in public. I definitely feel like life in college is going to change; I think lecture halls are going to hold less people than the maximum capacity would allow. I also think that dining halls are going to take way more precautions about sanitization and the cleanliness of the place. Moreover, I think people are going to take sickness more seriously and take the right precautions to avoid sickness.

Gen Z is going to start appreciating the little things in life and hopefully be off of technology more and be more present. I know I have started taking walks outside whenever the weather allows me to and it has made me appreciate earth and the little things so much more.

One thing that our generation really cares about is technology. However, I feel as if our generation is going to realize something, it’s the more sophisticated and flexible use of technology. Moreover, I think we are going to start appreciating the outdoors and other little pleasures of life because it’s the only thing that we have really been able to do for the past few weeks.
